MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings have declined to comment on allegations by the Green Bay Packers that they made inappropriate contact with quarterback Brett Favre.
Vikings spokesman Bob Hagan issued a two-sentence statement on Thursday that said the Vikings “are not commenting on the issue. These types of matters are handled by the league.”
The Packers filed a tampering charge with the league, contending Favre, who has asked the Packers for his release, has been talking with Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell. The two became friends when Bevell was an assistant coach with the Packers.
A source in Green Bay told ESPN.com’s John Clayton the Packers believe they have a strong case against the Vikings. First, they believe the Vikings were willing to talk to Favre in order to cause chaos within the Packers family during the summer.
Another source suggested Favre might have had a conversation with Vikings coach Brad Childress.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Wednesday the league had no comment. The Vikings open the season in Green Bay.
Childress has said in recent days that the Vikings are content with Tarvaris Jackson as their starting quarterback.
On June 20, Favre, who retired on March 3, called Packers coach Mike McCarthy and told him he had the “itch” to return to the NFL. On Saturday, Packers general manager Ted Thompson said Favre could return to active status on the Packers if he comes out of retirement, but his role would not be determined. During Favre’s retirement, Aaron Rodgers has been considered Favre’s successor.
If the Packers can prove the Vikings tampered with Favre, they could be subject to fines or a possible loss of a draft choice.

I’d like to say I told you so right now, but I can’t. We here at The Big Choke (we as in me, and one guy whose never here) have said time and time again that Brett Favre would most likely be back to play another year in a Green Bay Packers uniform.

ESPN has cited 3 seperate situations in which Brett Favre has not been treated like an MVP
WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee reported Monday that Favre sent a text message to Packers GM Ted Thompson on Saturday — and that Thompson’s reply was that he is on vacation and the two men will have to talk later.
And Sports Illustrated reported on its Web site Monday that Thompson has ignored phone calls from Favre’s agent, James “Bus” Cook, while sending an intermediary to Mississippi to talk to Favre. According to that report, Cook is expected to request that Favre be taken off the NFL’s reserve/retired list within the next 10 days.
Last week, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported Favre had communicated his potential desire to return to coach Mike McCarthy, but that talks had not advanced to a substantive stage, according to a Packers source.
So Brett has been dissed a total of 3 times now. His agents calls to the GM have gone unanswered, his text messages were dismissed by the GM, and the head coach has no comment or answer for Favre. Is this anyway to treat that drunk guy who just doesn’t know when to go home?
I can’t tell you with this means, but it can’t be good. The last time I touched upon Brett Favre and his possible come back we pegged Aaron Rogers as “miserable”. But now he has to be crying. Yesterday the new Madden 09 cover was revealed and Brett Favre for one reason or another is on it.
This either pisses Aaron Rogers off or makes him extremely happy. If the Madden Curse holds up he might have a chance to play next season after all.
