This Day in Sports

Satchel Paige...The Pitcher was born

A guy nobody reading this blog will remember was born.   According to Wikipedia he was some sort of a pitcher.  A righty, and I guess he was good because he was picked for the All Star game not once…but twice.  He also played for something called the Negro League as well as MLB.  Coincidentally tomorrow we will be posting about the anniversary of his death.

By the way: We are completely fucking around above.  We respect Satchel Paige as one of the greatest pitchers to play the game.   Sarcasm is a sign insecurity and I am insecure.

THIS DAY IN SPORTS

July 4th, 2008

Still the only New York professional sports athlete in history that you can’t poke fun at for crying on the field–and trust me they still do plenty of it (see 2004 Baseball team).

On this day in 1939 Lou Gehrig delivered an emotional speech bidding farewell to the NY fans and Baseball forever.  This speech is probably the 3rd most important thing Gehrig is recognized for.  Number 1 being the disease that was named after him, and number 2 his Baseball career with that team that need not be mentioned.
